No, the simple reason is that many countries are opposed to the idea of an universal court with authorities to try any suspected war criminal. USA, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, Iran etc etc are all opposed to it.

It is possible when countries with different ideologies like USA and China come together along with major nations like Russia. With so much opposition to the idea of an international court that would have the powers to prosecute any body in any country suspected of violating international laws, this will remain a dream.

Of course possible. Why not? It just needs the collective will of the people. Sudan’s president’s indictment does not necessarily mean that he will be arrested and put behind bars. Such a move would be severely opposed by China who has big stakes in Sudan.

No, it is simply impossible. The indictment of the Sudanese president was possible because the EU and USA supported it. Sudan is in the list of rogue nations in the USA. But it will be impossible to actually capture and punish the man unless there is an armed intervention as we saw in Iraq followed by the trial and execution of Saddam.

Sometimes we see the world doesn’t have a few things that it needs desperately. We face severe crisis of situations - foreign policies, shortages, environment etc etc. An universal court with the authority to prosecute and punish war criminals is one such thing that the world needs but doesn’t have.

Who would support this court? There were proposals before mainly by European Union countries to set up such a court that would have universal jurisdiction. However, the proposal was shot down by countries who matter from all across the world. That included the US of A as well as our own Pakistan.

When one party’s terrorist is the other party’s freedom fighter, it would be impossible to have such a court. The indictment of President of Sudan is just a symbolic thing. The President is not going to have a holiday trip in Miami beach any day.
