I don’t think UN has any role there in Burma. It will be good to raise the issue in UN Security Council but what will be the result?

We should raise this issue in UN Security council. After all its not Iraq or Afghanistan, it’s Burma and US has little interference there.

I would say Aung San Suu Kyi truly has the personality of Mandela and Gandhi.

She should be helped by the UN security council.

UN security council...are you crazy man or what are you? don’t be in fool’s errand. what good has UN done so far? any issue that needs urgent help never meted the deserving attention. UN is all about the saga of tails that ends in failure. Sudan, DR Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, kenya, Zimbabwe...you need more proofs do you?

No use of these efforts as long as China and India support the Junta.

Myanmar is actually ruled by China and India and only these two countries can decide the fate of Myanmar.Even America has no say and this will go on for some time as China and India need all the resources from Myanmar to develop their countries.

The Junta will rule without any fear or favour.Asean can bark but it is silenced as it reaches the shore.Suu Kye will languish and die with her dreams.What a pity!

It is a matter of lasting shame for the so-called democratic West that they have turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to Aung San Suu Kyi’s prolonged imprisonment by the Myanmar junta.

Time to hear the wake up call now.

Why can’t Nobel Laureates of the world come together and do something about this heroic lady who has given all her life in the cause of freedom and democracy? Or perhaps they think that giving her a Nobel Prize was an adequate response.

The Burmese regime must surely be on a par with Kim il Jung and Mugabe as the most repulsive regimes on earth.

Realistically, there is little that can be done from this side of the world, but as orwellwasright points out, the French (among others) have interests in Burma that are less than savory. Some pressure via the UN on that angle may have some (small) impact.

Don’t know about India, but if you think the Chinese give a flying uck about the human rights situation in Burma, you’re living in cloud cuckoo land.

Still you got hand it to those kind souls in the Chinese Communist Party, who only this week decided to let out some more “hooligans” who protested against the government over Tiananmen Square in 1989.

The junta doesn’t care - it has no reputation to lose and in the meantime they are killing her slowly. It doesn’t matter to them if the opposition is united or not. It won’t be permitted to come to power one way or another.

UN security council should interfere in the matter and should get hold of the situation in Burma. Its high time that this lady is under arrest and needs to be rescued. Distributing Nobel prize do not solve matters.
