wish it or not but for newspapers Google is a necessary evil, if i may say so...something that they couldn’t do without.

this is no doubt true. but if you make enough noise, how about google removing news results from your paper on their news site. how can you forget that newspapers probably getting more value in the form of the traffic they send you than they are from the headlines they scrape from your site.

internet is just about give and take and if goole earns from using the newspaper content so do the newspapers. then why grudges??? like it or not one can’t ignore Google!

there is every reason for the google to pay for the newspapers for the content they generate and google earns from using. Google in reality is a parasite and there is firm need for the newspapers to not to allow Google violate their copyrights.

So have you ever looked at your paper’s server logs to see how much traffic Google sends your way from people clicking on your paper’s headlines that appear in the search results?

you don’t want more traffic on your paper’s web site, right? That’s what your sales director bases your ad rates on.

Agreed, it’s the whole “Google making money directly from the news” issue that makes this development a bit different. Clearly, they’re not the first to aggregate news and sell ads on those page check the NY Times does the EXACT SAME THING with their Times Extra feature, which pulls in headlines and excepts from various competing sites).

The problem is that Google News is hugely popular and, as such, it’ll be essentially competing for ad dollars directly with the papers.

there is a need to understand that no one is denying google its due but the real question is is it fair for news companies to produce all this content for Google and for Google to keep the lion’s share of revenue. what the newspapers are talking about is the fair share that they are not getting!

I think newspapers has every right to ask for their share. It is just understandable that no one has right to grab on others work. Google should be not allowed by news papers to steal their content.
