What can we expect by 2050 if our world leaders seem not too strong enough to commit to the various measures that need to be implemented in the next two years?

By 2050, new leadership will take place and these leaders who have met may no longer be the presidents or prime ministers of their respective countries. Some may have even died by that time.

It is easy to set targets. However, what we need are little, concrete steps that must be planned as early as now. Words and forums are wasted when we seem to be like birds simply flying high above the sky and going nowhere.

A number of discussions are taking place, but the real ways and means to defeat climate change and other global issues are not being voice out. Can we really solve things by merely talking?

World leaders lack serious will and sincerity to do anything that really does not translate in to huge chunks of votes or something similar. India and China did not sign earlier this year and they did not now. What is the use of these agreement when such huge nations and more importantly major contributors of greenhouse gases do not sign? This will be very similar to Kyoto with just few European nations finally achieving those numbers. India can’t make up its mind on Nuclear deal issues and I don’t expect them to think about this at all.

This will help very little. Awareness among people is a better way.

The sincerity has to eventually flow from the voting constituencies. it is the general populace that is still uninformed, uneducated, and in some cases, downright callous to the whole environmental debate. Leaders can be sincere only to the extent that the public backs them. True enough, they can set targets and like, but the eventual push has to come from the people.

Consensus at the world stage can only emerge when it is driven at the national stage. Some leaders might be serious enough about the desperate state of affairs but can do nothing about it until the diverse views and interests are made to agree.
