Which means that for some, it’s actually themselves that they can’t handle.

Glamordom can never be a measurement why some commit suicide. When someone is pressured in what he does and doesn’t enjoy what he is doing, this leads to serious depression and later creates a feeling of numbness and boredom.

Material gain in this world is not the end-all and be-all of everything. Riches fade and can never buy peace of mind. In life, living a balanced, normal lifestyle is necessary or else you will be living in a virtual world of perfection and later be disappointed to find that not everything is perfect.

May be its got to do with age. Young people do not know how to handle their own lives... may be that’s why they give up to the pressure. Its not only glamordom that is responsible but the whole idea of being rich and spoilt at an age when others are struggling hard to make a name for themselves. It depneds upon person to person.. but generally it has been seen that those who achieve more at an age where they don’t know how to handle stuff, it becomes diffcult for them to take the pressure.. and then give in to it.

There have been cases in the past where cases like suicide and drugs from the glamour industry have been reported.. may be its just that every body keeps an eye on the glamor world so whatever happens there becomes news. There have been suicide cases reported of successful entreprenuers, engineering students as well... but they go unnoticed...

I don’t think it would be wise to single out only the ’youth’, or in a different bracket, only the ’youth of today’.

Cases like this have been witnessed in the distant past too...and with well-established and ripe-aged celebrities (not just young people). Drugs are not a new thing...even cases like that of Ruslana have always been on the celeb horizon.

So, its wrong to say that ’today’s youth’ is too weak to handle glamordom.

I Agree with you there Aneez... I mean if the youth of today is spoilt, how do we categorize the Flower Power generation who started the free-sex, booze, grass and rock-n-roll revoltuion nearly three decades ago???

And as far as celebrities are concerned, none of them down the decades has really come down as a true role model apart from a very few exceptions... Look at Elvis, look at Marilyn Monroe, look at the royal family of Britain or any other monarchies for that matter...

Its just that young people of all societies act out and make mistakes...

The difference with celebrities is that you only get to see them doing all that stuff everyday and via nationally and internationally circulated media...

One cannot really generalize. Glamour now days comes at a much earlier age, I guess that is also one of the reasons why we see more cases of depression or suicide.

Handling glamor at any point of life is not too easy and it depends and varies from individual to individual. There are some who give-in to the pressure and then there are ones who excel under the same pressure. I think when we talk about ”Today’s Youth” one might want to consider the pressure media thrusts up on young shoulders. Did an 18 year old Pele have same pressure and attention as an 18 year old Wayne Rooney? Maybe not and public glare is a big factor.
