Will small cars make SUVs obsolete?

General Motors’ sales in North America fell by 20% owing to falling demand of pick-up trucks and sports utility vehicles. GMs quarterly loss amounts to $15.5bn (£7.8bn). All other auto giants too are facing the crisis. Nissan reported a 42.8% fall in quarterly profits. Ford reported a 54% drop in sale of SUVs, whereas Toyota reported a drop of 32%. The small car market is growing very fast and fuel crisis coupled with credit crunch would certainly test the grit of the auto industry.

Gas prices alone should make gas guzzlers obsolete!

Its sad that we have to agree that owing to fuel crisis and credit crunch the sale of SUVs is going down. But lets hope its a temporary affair because sports cars and other large vehicles are really gorgeous vehicles

Yes, all economic and ecologic logic suggests that they must be out of use pretty soon. But there will be occasions and places where the big boys are irreplaceable, like in the case of the army which loves the Hummer despite the amount of oil it drinks. But the new small, electric vehicles are surely the future.

No, small cars don’t have enough zing in their frail bodies to overshadow an SUV, let alone make them obsolete.
Agreed that the shadow of fuel crisis is looming over the world, but the SUVs are here to stay...forever!
First of all, the particular segment which uses the SUVs are least affected by credit crunch or the rising fuel prices and secondly, even if the oil wells of the world get below the reserve mark, these people will be the privileged ones to use that precious oil till the last drop.
Poor people like us can console our weeping hearts and run a debate on whether the electric cars can overtake the SUVs... while the SUVs will continue to vroooom past us.

I think it will never happen. SUV will not be gone because of smalls cars. Maybe they will limit the production but not totally gone. Autopartswarehouse.com will watch this when it happen.
