Will referendum help achieve Venezuela social reforms?

Venezuelans have voted to lift limits on terms in office for elected officials, allowing President Hugo Chavez to stand for re-election. With 94% of votes counted, 54% backed an end to term limits. Will this referendum help solve all the problems that the country is face to face with and proves to be a strong step towards achieving the socialist reforms?

Well Hugo Chavez's victory was expected. If you talk about democracy, this is the best example. People through vote has decided what is good for them, proving that they trust in Chavez's leadership. Venezuelan constitutional amendments may change but Chavez's vision for Venezuela remains electric. The Bolivars revolution is here to stay, and so is true SOCIALISM in Latin America. Viva Venezuela, Viva Latin America, Viva Africa.

No, I don't think so. He hasn't done too much for the country in decade long rule except filling the offices with his coteries, sacking the officers who oppose him...if he was interested in the development of the country he would have many reforms under his belt but unfortunately he has none...

yes chavez has nothing to rejoice with for the ppl of Venezuala. yet Chavez is the choice of the ppl and the people of Venezuela has spoken clearly in his and in their favor..whatsoever. While it is indisputable that Hugo Chavez has improved the standard of living of the masses, he has also damaged the economy of Venezuela by pursuing a "Bolivarian revolution" that includes paying off Argentina's debt to the World Bank and subsidizing the governments of Cuba and Nicaragua at the expense of investment in his country. I also find the level of violent crime and socio-political intolerance there very disturbing. this proves that he is more the leader other latin american nations than for his own country...

just stop is ppl!! I agree constitutionally, it could prove a bad move but that would be decided in the future. However, Chavez's contribution could not be put at bay as He has steered Venezuela to a better place hence the thumping votes in referendum. He is a driving force in extending trading relations. He has spent wisely, Clearing Debts with the IMF, Reducing poverty and raising standards in education, adult literacy, reducing inflation, increasing employment, improving health services and reducing crime. He seems a very responsible leader but I would like to know more.

Some people call Chavez a "dictator" but not by half as much as George Bush was. Chavez did not invade any country, did not overthrow a regime he didn't like, did not kill tens of thousands of innocent people, did not destroy the entire infrastructure of a country by bombing so that a well connected multinational could get a government contract to "rebuild" what did not need to be destroyed, and did not force a puppet regime on another people to steal their oil. Chavez is the terror of fascists.

this vote is not for the social change and you bet that Venezuela will comes out to be nothing but another Cuba and chavez playing another Castro!!!this will give him free reign as president and i doubt if he will leave that place before Almighty's call

This is strange you know!!! i wonder why one is so surprised by Chavez's third term. Coz this is not something that is happening for the first time. if people want Hugo Chavez to lead them for the third time or fourth time for that matter let people decide - “Listen to the people.” Let the people speak.
If a President is extraordinarily competent, and people want him again why shouldn’t s/he serve a third term? Roosevelt served four! Chavez has remained popular by using vast oil revenues to boost social programs, such as literacy classes and benefits to single mothers. He has also cultivated closer relationships with American adversaries, such as Cuba & Iran and inspired other S. American leaders to follow his path.

yes but this will be tough job ahead provided he is interested in developing his country and not proving to be another Castro. Now as he has tasted power and wants more it may change the direction of the country. If he only learns one thing from South American history it's that dictators don't last long there.

Venezuela has little to rejoice with in the long run!!! its not the socialist reforms that they have voted but giving socialist leaders the keys to the constitution is never a good idea. One day it will left you will wake up in a one party state.

Taste of power is like the intoxication of drugs, and its difficult to get rid of it once you become addicted to. It is a fact, proven across the world time and again, too much time in power corrupts and tends to lead to a distorted view of matters.

The people of Venezuela will come to regret this in due course. coz its not too far as how long before Hugo decides elections are no longer needed either?

The referendum result is perfect as I expect. And those who are against it is with the imperialistic aspirations that chavez has done remarkably well in dealing with. Of course, it will be good for the country coz Hugo Chaves is the one of the presidents that deserve the regards, victories.

What will it mean for the country?

I believe, Owing to his winning a decisive victory, The challenges will go on..As it seems, The free policy which the country have, will continue to challenge some imperialist policies.
