Beijing pollution is showing no signs of settling down. Teams fear that it might affect their performance, especially in endurance races. US cyclists arrived yesterday at Beijing airport wearing smog masks. However, they have apologized to Games organizers.

I think when athletes exert themselves to the extreme to chop off the millisecond of the second or to reach the millimeter ahead of the others pollution might play an important part. That way the biggest advantage would like with the athletes who are used to such levels of pollution.

Yes... Pollution is going to affect the athelets in the olympics. After all the atheletes competing in the endurance races need to have their lungs full of pure oxygen for most of the time to fuel their energy resources. It can be disasterous to undertake such strenuous activties in a polluted atmosphere

It is all propaganda against the Chinese people. There is no way that pollution would come between performance of athletes. Some people don't like the idea of China holding such a big event and making it the best ever Olympics till date.

The pollution levels of Beijing are definitely going to affect on athletes' performances. The pollution in Beijing is simply unacceptable. There is a catch though. It will affect only the athletes from the West. So they will win less medals this time. The Asian and African athletes would be fine. Of course we know China's athletes are trained in the pollution and they would be at their best and win the most gold medals.

So far it has not and the rains in Beijing also helped in bringing down the pollution levels. The endurance course in cycling was a great sight. It had some breathtaking views. It looked so green and serene.
