The US commander in Afghanistan today gave his full backing to attempts to reintegrate Taleban members into the rest of the population.
General Stanley McChrystal said that 50 to 80 per cent of the Taleban would probably stop fighting if they were given jobs and he called for “patience, resolve and time”.
“We must respect the people, because ultimately the Afghans must defeat the insurgency,” he said. “In the end we don’t win by defeating the Taleban or by a body count, but when the Afghans have decided that we have won.”

Yes a regular income will surely help these people stay away from unnecessary violence.

Yes i think, jobs would help in bringing down the numbers of militants rather than finishing them altogether because most of them join the groups for money and not religion.

Yes i think this would help because people will be getting their bread and butter easily and won't feel any need to join taliban and end as a terrorist.

Another factor is that the jobs would keep people busy and a mind at work generally stays away from the evil thoughts. This idea should be implemented and people be given jobs on the priority basis.

It will be good idea to educate these human being instead of fighting them. These people need some solid education that they can later use to built a society that is more moderate version of Islam like in Turkey.
