UK unveils new strategy to win the drug war or at least reduce drug violence in a war that otherwise seems undefeatable. According to new strategy, police should switch their focus away from arresting drug dealers and concentrate on cracking down on particularly harmful behaviors linked to drugs. The measure also includes displacing the market to another area, where it will have less impact. Do you think this strategy will win? How could drug related violence be curbed as long as the drugs will keep flowing in the market and the drug gangsters will not be prosecuted?

How can any government who has declared the drug trafficking illegal avoid the prosecution of traffickers? It's illogical. We have the option of legalizing the drugs.

Prohibition of drugs can never work. We should legalize drugs and tax them. It would provide large amount of revenue. More over police will be free to concentrate on many other important works.

Drug trafficking is related to human behavior just like other crimes. So does it mean we should not prosecute the people committing theft, driving dangerously, mugging, murdering etc. Should they stop trying to catch the people who do these things?

No doubt there is a need to change the strategy to deal with drug trafficking but avoiding the prosecution of traffickers can be a dangerous idea. It will inspire the people to indulge in this highly profitable business.

There are many good reasons for legalizing the drugs. At least the business of drugs wouldn't remain in the hands of the people who want to make profits at any cost. The state will regulate the whole business which will provide employment to the people and revenue to the state.

There are two options to deal with the drug trafficking. Either we legalize and tax drugs or really crack down (no pun intended) against the traffickers. I think second one is the most appropriate approach. Legalizing the drugs may create other problems in the society.

Police 'cannot win drugs war'? Isn't a shame on the two most powerful nations (US&UK) that they can't curb even the gangsters. How can they think about eliminating the All-Qaeda and Taliban?

For avoiding the prosecution of drug traffickers we need to amend the criminal justice system. Without doing this we can't stop the police from arresting the people. It will be the violation of laws.
