Former Home Secretary John Reid alarmed in a statement that there is no such organization as ‘Al Qaeda’. John Reid further added “Of course, there are terrorists, and there are also fantasists, fanatics, low-lifes and camp followers who plot and attempt horrible things. Some of them even call themselves ‘Al Qaeda’ these days because they have learned that this is a good way to scare us. But, while they are a menace, they are not as big or as organized a menace as the Government likes to make out.”

How is that possible? I mean the whole world and specially the United States is utterly shocked by the Al- Quaeda activities. I don’t know on what basis John Reid says that there is no organization like Al - Quaeda. Terrorists are moving free everywhere, we can’t say who belongs to what terrorists organization. But they are all too much powerful.

Correct... there isn't any organization as al qaida. if there was once it was never under a central command. osama bin laden is just an ideological figurehead of the terrorist group. the al qaida that means "the base" was destroyed by usa in 2002.

The term Al Qaeda is now synonymous to American fears of a terror strike against its citizens. The name itself is so deeply associated with events following 9/11 that fundamentalists, media personnel and ofcourse the White House have made it look a super evil rather than explore the intricacies involved in a terror strike.
Sometimes I do feel that we make the most of a unique name that once genuinely existed and open up opportunities for extremists, religious and ideological, to use a name for world recognition.
Blaming Al qaeda and making it look scary is nothing but utter helplessness on the part of the US to hide her failure to tackle extremism.
