Should there be a separate sports event for intersex?

The 18-year-old South African champion, Caster Semenya, who won gold in world 800m race has been asked to take a gender test. Semenya won gold in impressive fashion in a time of one minute, 55.45 seconds. This makes IAAF suspicious and they are testing to see whether Semenya has a rare genetic disorder that means she has female genitalia but male chromosomes. If it is proved that she is not a female, she will be withdrawn and the medals revised. Does this mean intersex should not contest in a common sports event?

I am not sure if there should be separate events for intersexuals as that would be a discrimination but again if they would participate with females, that would be unfair to women as intersexuals will have edge over them.

And participating with males will be unfair to the intersex people. Isn't it?

Genetic disorders by birth are to be blamed in such cases. They definitely should have separate sports events conducted for them to give a fair chance to all.

Quite a fair comment. However, bit difficult to execute the idea

Making them compete separately would be a discrimination the way its in the case of gays. They should be allowed to participate in general sports.

Yes! In this case, she is stronger than females and quite possibly weaker than males. So there has to be a separate event for them.

I am against any kind of discrimination. Hence they should not have separate events.

The concept of 'intersex' is not quite known to people so it would be a bit soon to discuss on this topic. But yes few years down the line, something will surely be done about this.

People who have hormones of male can compete with males and the ones who are more inclined to female hormones, should compete with females...if it can be possible :P

Let the procedure remain the same as always. The society is already not accepting gays; tomorrow intersex will also suffer in the same way.

Yes, there should be separate events when their physical abilities vary.

In a rare case of this type of so called disorder, this young lady won the race, by all accounts is a woman , bought up in extraordinary circumstances of hardship.
It is simple she won the race and deserves her medal. Think of the courage she has to have to face all this media hype. It should be a celebration for her, her country and family.
