Should the Wives of G8 leaders boycott summit over 'sexist' Berlusconi?

Italy, nowadays, is more in news for its PM’s sex life and extramarital affairs than anything else. Women are ‘appalled as citizens of Italy’ and Europe by the attitude displayed towards women by Mr Berlusconi. Subsequently, public reaction against Silvio Berlusconi has come up at a time when G8 meeting is approaching. Three Italian female academics are calling on Gordon Brown’s wife, Sarah, President Obama’s wife, Michele and other leaders’ spouses not to attend the gathering in L’Aquila, which will be hosted by the Italian PM. Should the wives of G8 leaders adhere to the request? Do you think it’ll help bring respect to women in Italian society?

I do think so. Women should unite themselves. After all it's a matter related to the prestige of women.

I think the ladies should boycott the summit. It will save the precious time and resources of the organizers.

Yea, wouldn’t want to draw any more attention to the morally defunct ruler of Italy.

One thing I can't understand is why are they taking their wives with them? Are they going on a picnic? They are going to attend an international summit and should concentrate on that.

Will their absence create any difference on the official proceedings of the summit? No. Let them do what ever they want.

Don't underestimate women, at least the Italian. The leaders may find it difficult to live alone.

I really appreciate the efforts of these academics. They have raised their voice for the rights of first ladies. It will inspire the women all over the world.

They haven't done any laborious task. More over what the Berlusconi has done is the culture of Italy.

You are kidding...RIGHT?

Inspire women all over the world to what?....Put up with lying, cheating, philandering husbands like the first lady of Italy does? She obviously doesn’t care. She is more interested in money than she is in her dignity so that is her right. Everyone has a right to be stupid, she is just abusing the privilege!

Just because the president of Italy is married to an idiot doesn’t mean all presidents are married to idiots so why should they show solidarity with her? Bill Clinton was married to an idiot and they still let that moron run around meddling in the affairs of others.
