Should science declare a holy war on religion?

Religion, as it is repeatedly said, will be the reason for the vital conflict that may destroy the world. However, Richard Dawkins – the US evolutionary biologist and bestselling author - returns to writing about science and religion. In his new book, “The Greatest Show on Earth,” Dawkins excels at making the case for evolution. America’s anti-evolutionists adherents however often view science itself as an assault on their faith and stubbornly refuse to accept evolution. So, should religious dogmas be challenged with scientific logic? Should science come forward with holy war on religion to save the world from vital conflict?

Of course, science should declare war on religion but don't ever call it a holy war. It will be a war for liberating human being from all sorts of religious thoughts which never allow them to think rationally.

In science experiments are based on the belief that cause and effect is true. The God of science is cause and effect. To be a scientist one must believe in cause and effect. Cause and effect is the God of religions which practice prayer, rites, services. I observe no conflict between science and religion concerning belief in God.

Religion and science can never be attuned. Every branch of science negates the theories of religion about human evolution and all the religions differentiate on the origin of human being. Science has never tried sincerely to reject those theories. At a time when the world is facing worst form of religious fundamentalism it becomes pertinent that science should clear all the illusions.

If science and religion do not square with each other, then one or both of them must be wrong. The main problem I see is that 'God' is mis defined by both parties. The God that atheists don't believe in is often just as wrong as the God religious extremists do believe in. Reject simple minded BS. Before people can learn, there's a lot of garbage that needs to be unlearned.

”The God that atheists don’t believe in is often just as wrong as the God religious extremists do believe in.”

Very well stated.

Such an eventuality will be an unequal one. Science is based on reasoning while religion is a matter of faith.

Well said but the sad part of the story is that science never tried sincerely to contradict that faith which promotes enmity among the human beings.

There is not much difference between science and religion to a sane mind.Science believes in power of logic to get hold of the truth while religion uses the power of faith to anticipate the truth.Anyway, the realm of faith is much grater than realm of logic.

Not much difference in science and religion? These are just like two poles which can never meet. Science has always negated the very existence of God and religion has always attacked the science for this. For a sane mind who has rational thinking God is nothing but creation of ruling class who tries to divide the people.

How can ever faith anticipate the truth and how can the realm of faith be greater that that of logic? Faith (religious) leads to psychological disorders. All the religions are nothing but human imaginations at different places and different time periods. Religions create hatred among the human beings. So atheism based on science is the only way to get out of world conflicts.

According to Sri Aurobindo, there is no unbridgeable gulf between reason and the faith, the phenomenal and the noumenal world, the world of necessity and the world of freedom. This is owing to the fact that unlike Kant,he does not confine all knowledge to phenomena. The intelligible world ,God ,soul ,freedom and immortality are not only articles of faith and belief, but they can be realized essentially and integrally through the higher consciousness. For Kant, the Absolute remains for ever known and unknowable:to Sri Aurobindo,it remains unknowable as has been stated above ,only to sense and reason and not to higher source of knowledge.....Finite reason is usually involved in oppositions and contradictions.

....The application of the strictly scientific method in the study of man is already creating a serious situation for man’s moral and spiritual life.”In psychology and sociology,in medicine and philosophy ,man has been dissolved into elements out of which he is composed and which determine him.”But this way of studying man reduces him to the level of an object.

I don’t understand why this issue of science declaring a war against religion comes up over and over again. Both coexist.

Science without religion is no more lane but religion with out science is surely dangerous. Science in the days of Albert Einstein was not in position to answers many questions but modern science has posed a question mark on the very existence of God. Seeing the magnitude of ongoing world wide problems due to religion it has gone pertinent that science declare a war on religion so that men could get rid of these.

Religion is the downfall of humanity. The two cannot coexist, because religion prevents science from progressing.

It’s not a ”holy war” either, that’s just a ridiculous term.

In any case, people are starting to realize that there is no difference between a ghost coming down to impregnate a virgin with a child and Santa Clause. The Bible, the Quran, and the Torah are all fairy tales.

An interesting conversation has taken place between me and Nuya over Einstein’s above mentioned quote in one of the article’s on IB : http://julita.instablogs.com/entry/superstition-and-media-we-are-made-to-accept-that-we-are-ruled-by-divine-forces/

Also have a look at my recent article that explores hidden aspects of religion based on intuitive and higher consciousness : http://indowaves.instablogs.com/entry/sri-aurobiondo-the-dreamer-of-divine-conquest/

Undoubtedly religion is the down fall of humanity. Religion has done nothing positive but every thing destructive.
Religion and science can never coexist. Sooner or later there will be no space for religion. Science will prove that there exist nothing like God.

Religion is the cancer of humanity. Even after great scientific and technological development we haven't been able to cure this cancer. Scientists should take the responsibility for this. They should declare a war on religion.
