Should private security forces replace Govt. police?

With the rising crime and inability of the govt. police force to ward off criminal elements, residents of an affluent suburb in Southampton have ‘lost faith in the police force’. As a result, they’ve clubbed together to hire a private team of uniformed officers to protect them from crime in the area. They need to pay £3.15 a week to fund a private security force to patrol the streets. Therefore, as citizens have no faith in the govt. police, would it be a fair call to replace Govt. police with the private security personals?

We do not feel secure even though the local Police Station is just a few hundred yards away from our house, moreover, it is shut down on nights and weekends when there is actually dire need of some protection. I am positive, with private security forces, this won’t be an issue.

Absolutely! The police is passive, they are reluctant to come out of their cocoons. Have become mechanical, react only after the receipt of a call.

This is what the people want? Let them go ahead. BTW Police is not a Corporate Revenue collecting force for the companies. It's against the basic thought behind the establishment of police.

People are hiring private police? It's great. Now state police will be free for providing security to politicians. I think politicians deliberately defunct the state police's functioning so that they could get more security.

@Moses Disinterest shown by the government in terms of allocation of funds to the police department could be a possible reason for their passive behavior.

Private secuirty personnel are already being employed in many countires. It has been seen that they too are not immune to bribery etc.

Its better to ask the government to reform their police forces.

People have been hiring the private security in many countries but it can never fully replace the state police. Private police can not have the powers of state police so ultimately people have to approach the state police.

People have no other option than hiring the private police when the state police is not able to provide them security. The basic purpose of police is to secure the citizens but it's busy in political correctness, meeting targets and harassing motorists.

The idea of private police sounds good but the question is who will police them and what training have they received? Too many private security agencies are already working in UK but people still don't have confidence in them.
