Should people be given power to recall corrupt politicians?

With the increasing corruption in the government and MPs misusing the taxpayers hard earned money for their own comforts; the system needs to be changed. This is what British PM Gordon Brown feels. In the wake of the expenses scandal, British PM is planning a revolutionary step by presenting a bill to give voters power to recall the corrupt MPs. This is intended to end political corruption and provide a solution to many restless voters who are seeking genuine change to the way UK is governed. With the increasing political corruption, do you think democracy needs desperate reforms? Do you think this measure will boost up democracy and people’s trust in the government?

Yes, power to recall the politicians should be given to the people. People who vote for politician have full right to sack him if he goes corrupt.

Power to recall the politicians should be given every where? Political corruption is a problem every where. People are demanding this in India too.

I do agree that India is one of the most corrupt countries and bringing this type of law is also not very easy in India as you need strong political will to bring such changes and Indian leaders don't have that will.

I don't think this is the solution. Professional check on the person should be done before the elections themselves and in case someone goes corrupt, punish him and never let him fight the elections again.

Yes we need this power to show the politicians that we are not the puppet in their hands. If they can't handle their jobs, they'll be chucked out.

Yes they should! One who does not perform has no right to stay in power.

I think people should be given this right constitutionally otherwise one day they will sack the corrupt politicians forcibly which will create chaos in the society.

Right to recall the politicians should be there in constitution but for bringing such change we need sincere and honest government which seriously wants to curb the corruption.

Current laws are not sufficient to check the political corruption. I think special provisions should be there in the criminal justice system to deal with the corrupt politicians.

Here in UK this is only a political gimmick of Mr. Brown. In the other countries too I don't think it will be implemented.

I think there should be re-call. They are paid enough and to take more called ”expenses” is fraud. I am paid a wage and my expenses have to come from that wage. I think they should face a criminal court and sent to jail for fraud as ordinary people would have to. If I stole from my boss, or took so called expenses for personal use it is fraud and to say ”they were confused.. did not realize” in law ”I did not know etc” is not good enough and being who they are, they knew alright that it is fraud.

We have the same problems here in Mexico. The politicians are corrupted either by the narcos or by there own self serving ideals.

Civil Watch groups have been created here in Mexico with that very idea at hand. Governors are forced to sit down every certain amount of time and give declarations on the communities requests and needs...and why the have or have not been taken care of...

government officials should not have a set term..It should be made a law, just like any other job, if you don’t work up to par, you’re out on your ass...

BUT at the same time, we the people MUST do our job in staying on top of the needs of our own communities. We must make these politicians aware of our needs and that we will not just sit idle.
