Should Iran be attacked to control its nuclear programs?

nuclear-iran_etfFm_17334The growing speculation that Iran may come under attack because of its nuclear programme has become a likely scenario. A top Israeli official has declared to attack Iran if it continues with its alleged ‘nuclear arms programme’ that Iran insists is purely for peaceful purposes.

Plenty of influential people in the Middle East, Europe and the United States think an attack on Iran would have consequences potentially as disastrous as the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It would also send oil prices, already through the roof, into the orbit.

Since the UN sanctions proved ineffective, ‘attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable says Mofaz, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister.

you could not expect anything more foolish than this speculation. For fools rush in where angles fer to tread. it's amazing to see that the uncle Sam is still making its mood but the friend of a friend is ready to rush in. it's nothing more than knowingly asking for innumerable problems.

there is no reason why Iran should be attacked for carrying out its nuclear program. West wants its terms and conditions dictated and that's not fair in any case. there remains no question for using the force against Iran when it had called in IAEA officials to inspect its nuclear program. can someone tell me why iran should be attacked after that. this is the failure of IAEA, should Iran pay for that, of course not.

This is double standard. I oppose it. There are enough problems in the Mideast and they can’t afford to survive with a massive one like this. It’s been long since we’re hearing the western propaganda that Iran is a threat to the world peace and I’ve maintained last time even that peace does not lie with the western nations only. Mideast needs it, though every nation does, desperately. The argument against Iran that it’s a threat to the world peace and by peace do they mean only those who’ve nuclear arsenal have got the peace and no one else does? If IAEA is lame and ineffective to judge Iran’s nuclear program, why to blame Iran?

Yes. Iran needs it. They are the foolish enough to provoke the world powers to do the same. What else can you expect from a sovereign nation like Israel when threatened to be wiped out of the map. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is behaving like Hitler and the one who opts for Hitler's path will die like Hitler.

Iran is giving impetus to a nuclear race. World stands on the brink of the nuclear war. After Washington post reveled last month that more than 40 nations all around the world are looking forward to have a nuclear technology by legal or illegal means, force seems viable option against Iran. If Iran pursues that successfully, the same race will start in the mideast and Israel will be among the first to acquire it. Nevertheless, that is a far thinking but the conflict sparks have started to come out even when either of the two (Israel and Iran) don't have it. Now one can imagine what can happen after Iran gets it. So, there is an urgent need for the world powers to avert this conflict and stop Iran having nuclear technology. if force remains the last option, use it to avert a vital conflict that will spill over and over.

Why this mess! Iran has every right to go for Nuclear. For, it took a right step by allowing IAEA to inspect its nuclear program.

The U.S. intelligence community has concluded with “high confidence” that Iran halted its nuclear weapons development program in the fall of 2003 under international pressure and sanctions that the world community imposed on it.

Anyone want to comment on what the reasons for Iran should halt its pursuit of Uranium enrichment program for peaceful purposes. If that approved that in 2003, then why are you messing up now? Did you lie in 2003 or are lying now?

I think if Iran doesn't back down, striking it will be the last option to make it kneel. An invasion is quite doable, in the sense that Iraqi terrorists don't really have what it takes to topple the Iraqi government, even if we leave today.

However, The bigger danger in invading Iran would not just be the iran forces-- but China. Yes, they might find it the ideal chance to take back taiwan by force. For further destruction, they could ask North Korea to invade, or at least cause some serious trouble. In fact this whole Iran things has the makings for world war III.

I am an Iranian and I don't like and don't trust the hardliners in power in Iran. But I hate their counter-parts in US even more and I cannot tolerate seeing the same thing happening to us as happened in Iraq. Our move toward democracy was halted once before by US and I think we need to do anything, including developing nuclear weapons, to prevent such a thing from happening again. In order to attain and protect our sovereignty nuclear power is the only option that can prevent us from threats of being attacked for no fault of ours.

Nuclear proliferation is among the major threats of present time. I strongly argue in favor of attacking Iran if it continues its uranium enrichment program. the reason is as simple as that, countries that promote and export terrorism should not be allowed to pursue nuclear weapons technology. And if some rogue states have nuclear weapons doesn't mean all should. if it will be allowed to, days are not far when Osama will threaten world with the nuclear weapons or rather use it. I think striking Iran makes more sense than letting nuclear weapons to go in the hands of Osama or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Actually, my answer is ”it depends”. First, Nima, any attack against Iran by the US or Israel will certainly not be an Iraq style invasion. Can you imagine what kind of disaster trying to reach Tehran with thousands of troops. Tehran is one of the most protected capitals in the world geographically. Additionally, the Persian people are a sophisticated and educated people. And, like Nima, while most Persians don’t like their government (or at least the hardliners in it) and most would love to see the theocracy go away, they still love Iran and their sovereignty. An Iraq style invasion would, therefore, be a complete disaster.

The only way a military strike against Iran could work is by strategic bombings of nuclear sites. If harsher military action were required and a war was entered into, it should be carried out the way the Yugoslavia conflict (pure air war) was done.

Ultimately I don’t think it is in the best interest of the US or Israel to attack Iran at all right now. Most of Ahmadinejad’s is just that and it may be best to just ride out his presidency and hope that his replacement is more pragmatic and willing to work with the international world (Larijani?).

There are legitimate reasons for Iran to pursue Nuclear energy, but when it it hurts or puts your nation at the brink of war, they need to put off the research. The fact that the Iranian government is so uncooperative with the international community, not on this but on virtually every issue brought before it, is concern enough. In my view, Iran is run by a belligerent theocracy that has done everything within its power to alienate itself from the rest of the world, God help the citizens of Iran if their leadership keeps this up.

If Iran can be attacked with diplomacy, then I am for it. Iran may have several reasons for its nuclear programs. Sometimes, a nation needs to do things for its survival.

Probably, an inspection of what it is currently doing and the extent of its nuclear activities must be monitored.

Let us remember that violence begets violence. Attack Iran with force and see for yourself what will happen next.

It's been well known that the Iranian weapons are found from Iraqi terrorists. and as i can understand it, we're more fighting against the iranian terrorists and weapons in Iraq than Al Sadr or any other terrorist organization.

But shouldn’t we try to fight them in Iran than to fight them in iran and iraq. Fighting with them in iran will ensure that iraq will return to normalcy. So in order to settle down iraq in general and mideast in particular attacking and kneeling iran is must. So let us not wait long or else Iran will have the destructive weapons.

Well, this is not the first time Israel has threatened an arch Middle-Eastern rival militarily and when it comes to Iran, Tel Aviv do have a cause in attacking Tehran as far as the Jewish country’s own territorial and public security is concerned. Yet, at a time when the world is facing a major econonmic and energy crisis, there is no relevance in the words of the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister when he rationalised an imminent attack on Iran. Let alone actions, words nowadays spiral out of control and the threat has the potential to destabilise not only the Middle East but the whole world for we are dealing with a region which is very much at the forefront of the energy crisis. The world is already in trouble and for god’s sake let’s not make this a tougher place to live in. There are many relevant ways to solve potential flashpoints but not by talking rubbish.
Destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities may serve Israel and yes the world would be safer but this has to be done diplomatically and strategically.

Just do not understand why the US feels the every nations internal affairs are matters it can dabble in. If Iran wants to go nuclear then there is no reason why it should not and another country asking it to stop is totally meaningless. Irrespective of what the consequences of such a nuclear program might be it is only foolish to attack on mere hallucinations and guesses.

This might look tempting to Iran. Howerever, attacking Iran would further deepen the oil crises. And for sure world at larg cant afford that. Instead it is high time for America to take a lesson for its past follies and make some timely amendments.

No way. If Israel has nuclear weapons, why is Iran being stopped from developing nuclear technology? Only because the US has labeled Israel as a ’good guy’ and Iran as the ’bad boy’?

I am sure if Iran is engaged in talks sincerely, something positive will come out of it. Barack Obama makes a lot of sense when he advocates talks with Iran.

The world cannot afford a military skirmish over Iran. Oil prices have already zoomed to $130+.
