Should Fashion Industry agree to ‘black model quota’?

The Sao Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) to be held in Brazil next month, has agreed to boost the number of black models after being targeted by anti-racism campaigners. Under the terms of the deal, at least 10 percent of the casting has to be composed of black, African-descendant or indigenous models; otherwise fines could be levied against labels taking part.

Yes, there should be a quota for black models to participate in the fashion competitions. Blacks have suffered for centuries and they should be given more opportunities.

Quota will not solve the problem. there are thousand other ways that can help these ppl to come to the main stream. Quota is not a long term solution, but better facilities and sources will surely be.

Demanding for or giving quota is a discrimination in itself. it will not bridge the racism but will widen the differences. I live in a country where quota politics rules and we have gone through many experiences. Quota is to end the chances for the more eligible candidates who are devoid of the opportunity coz some one have quota takes their opportunity away.

Forcing any institution to include more of a specific race is a racist act itself.

Isn't focusing on quotas of races, racist? "You have too many models of one race and not enough of another. That’s racist.

Another incremental step towards worldwide "equality" and "fairness" Why would anyone be against racial fairness?
