Should all embrace the idea of a day for apologies?

Can a simple idea to apologize help make the world a better place to live in? As top UK bankers say sorry in front of MPs for their part in the financial crisis, Tom Perrotta says we should all embrace the idea of a dedicated day for apologies. It’ll, as Perrotta says, make the world a better place should we institute two new holidays - Grievance Day and Apology Day. Well, how do you think this will help or will it just be nothing but adding two more days to the long list holidays?

Well, it’s not the apologies but the actions to amend the wrong doings that make the difference. Merely saying sorry and doing nothing substantial is rather shirking the responsibility to correct and avoid the same in near future. Similarly, the banking chiefs saying sorry for their inability to deal with the financial crisis is somewhat ok, but have they plans to come out of the financial quagmire? If no, their sorry means nothing.

Thanks for your cultural explanation of Kshamavani day and how it works for the Jain community ,but to think that there are any real felling in their tradition is like believing the communion to a catholic is any more believable ,you can’t turn emotions on and off like a switch ,if a the mostly good people do something bad like every human does than there is no need to say anything as actions and words of apology at the time or shortly after will suffice,
As always i enjoy hearing your views and think you have some of the most sincere people in your country ,than any where on earth

I agree with the idea for having both these days! yes it will be good for one to say sorry which sometimes you would have avoid becoz there is not time for this in you work schedule or perhaps your work is too hectic to keep you busy throughout the day minimizing chances to remember what right of wrong you did. it;ll, especially apology day help as Sometimes we realise our mistakes after sometime of committing them, and don't find right time to apologise for them.

this is ludicrous idea you know!!!!!!as far as making the world better place to live in is concerned...bcoz I believe there is lot more we'd do for making world a better place. there is another good reason for this as this will end in nothing more than. All you need to do to take part is undertake not to harm any other human beings on that day. If it is successful then perhaps we can extend it for longer periods and who knows perhaps we will learn to live together. It's a nice thought.

You would make your society of mostly good people paranoid wondering who they hurt or if it is time to apologize
Just another weakness of us dizzy humans trying not to be human

wasting a whole day for the apologies does not sound too good an option for me. Didn't u hv the cell phone to type sorry in the message box and send it. How much time will it take after all or will doing it in the whole day make a big difference. seriously speaking, i doubt it will help in making the things better
