Is recession the right time to tackle US gun culture?

Shooting sprees are nothing new in the US; however its increase at an alarming rate certainly is. Many held Economic crisis responsible for the rise in violence. Recession has brought people to an edge where they see no other way, thus flaring rash killings across America. And easy availability of guns does more damage. As a result, there are at least 58 fatalities in eight incidents over the past month and Gun has repeatedly been used in almost every incident. With the increasing violence, is recession the right time to curb the gun culture in US?

I agree with Cindy Southworth, director of the Safety Net Project when she said "a bad economy doesn't cause violence, just as a good economy doesn't cure it. don't blame recession for everything.

may be it's about psyche but don't forget it's supported by arms at hand. how one can ignore the data provided about the surge in the violence. this is due to the easy availability of guns and fire arms that led them to instant outburst killing many innocents along. gun culture should end as soon as possible!

This story is sheer nonsense. there are thousands of ppl who are affected by the recession - job loss, home loss, money loss...why they don't go on shooting everyone who comes in their way? the only reason is that the shooters are troubled people who have not been able to make their way in life. If statistics are true regarding gun ownership, there are millions of unemployed people with guns. One could reason there should millions of people shooting up the streets.

it's something about psyche and our culture that promotes using firearms for individual security. be it recession or anything but the gun culture should be curbed coz easy availability of guns has every now and then resulted in scores of deaths. security is state's concern and using arms for individual safety should not be allowed.

@Christopher

you r right. it's more about psyche and culture...otherwise recession has hit almost every nook and corner of the world. Here in India as well lots of ppl have lost their jobs but no shootings or no related violence yet.

I think there will be an increase in the crime rate due to recession. Bad economy is the most responsible for violence.

It does become difficult for people to digest the fact of job losses in a promising country like the US. Every person is not gifted with the patience as well and that is why such incidence occurs.
