Is modern technology killing relationships?Modern technology in your hands allows you to keep checks on your partners easily and catch possible infidelity. It also facilitates making new friends, finding old flames, finding new partners, etc., that has the potential to destroy a current relationship.

Widespread use of mobiles to text and the Internet has taken joys of face-to-face conversations, perfumed love letters out of our lives.

A man in America reportedly filed for divorce, citing his Wii as a catalyst for his wife’s infidelity. The Wii’s Mii feature allows a player to store his or her personal profile, called a Mii making it a social hub.

Oyster cards reveal where your partner traveled in the last ten weeks. So if you are cheating on your wife by telling her you were working on a weekend when you had a secret date out of town, she will know you were lying.

Contrary to killing relationships I think modern technology is helping people maintain relationships in todays fast paced world. If you and your partner have to work on different hours and weekends and the off days are the only times when you can spend some together sending an SMS comes as a boon as it reminds that someone misses you and thinks of you and you are not alone.

Imagine there is no mobile or internet today. Do you think you would be able to sit down for an hour everyday writing a handwritten letter to your partner in a different city? This is impractical. Technology has brought people closer if anything.

If your partner is cheating then the relationship is already dead whether you find it out or not. Tech makes a few things easier for people in a relationship because the sooner you know about a cheating partner the lesser the amount of time you are cheated. Tech is good.

With technology in people have gone further apart physically because technology give you the false sense of a shrinking world.
Being connected is not enough. Physical proximity is very essential for a relationship.
Wherever you are in this world you can connect to your partner anytime through a mobile phone or the net.
The world has moved from reality to virtuality.

Technology cannot kill a relationship. Infidelity does. The footballer who left his wife of 13 years for an old flame is a loser because he couldn't come out of his love for her despite being married to someone else. His ex-wife should be thankful to the social networking site because it brought out the real man in him who was someone who never loved her.

Just like Instablogs it is insta-romance these days. The days where married couples worked overtime to set the wrongs in a marriage right to make it work, the days when wooing a girl was a long drawn affair through handwritten chits sent via the neighbourhood kid or the girl's female friend is long gone. If it doesn't work out, you are out of it. Technology will open other avenues for you.

Technology has made it possible to say - "Take it or leave it". It has also paved the way for the possibility of saying "Let's try it. If it clicks we are on and if doesn't we are off". It is destroying the values that makes a society.

Modern technology might be killing relationships but I am firmly behind tech that makes it possible easier to detect unfaithful spouses or partners. It is better to find out the truth than be blissfully ignorant about a cheating partner.

Why blame technology if your partner is indulging in secret relationships? If there is one person to be blamed, it is your partner for employing it in a wrong sense. Technology is a neutral matter that is neither good nor bad. Everything depends on how you use all the advanced equipment that we have. The people practicing infidelity are the ones killing relationships and not the innocent modern technology.

It is easy to put the blame on technology if a marriage fails. The truth is it fails ’coz people don’t make an effort to respect it. And most of the time, they take the easy way out - kill it. Instead, they should look to mend their ways and try reviving the relationship.

According to the first paragraph of this viewpoint you can see that technology is both helpful as well as destructive in terms of relationships. But why blame technology when it is the brain behind the technology that is to be actually blamed?

Again technology is being blamed for what are clearly human mistakes. Technology neither facilitates infidelity nor does it retard it. The two are mutually exclusive. You could be the most tech savvy geek in the world and yet love your spouse enough to sort out any relationship problem.
As for catching the cheaters, while technology makes it more easy, it also makes it easier to hide if you know how to manipulate it

People search for relationships if they are not satisfied with the current one, and feel like bounded....Hence,provoked to search for new one..secretively.

The culprit is not technology. Rather it is a boon. It just helps revealing cheating partners who are the real culprits of breaking relationships. It is absurd to say that technology is killing relationships.

yes i think so because my boyfriend would rather have cybersex with me when out of town than have the time to spend some time with me when he is around. he is soooo busy that i wish that he missed me sometimes but net and cell wont allow that. :((

I don't understand how modern technology can kill relationships. Modern technology is just helping people detect infidelity and lies. The sooner such cases are detected, the better it is for the partner to get out of the relationship.

It is just like modern technology is helping law to catch more and more criminals and convicting them.

This does not mean that modern technology is creating more criminals.

Of course criminals are using modern technology too to commit crimes but that is a different subject.
