Is launching ‘Halal search engine’ Islamisizing the web?

The first ‘Halal Search Engine’ is launched in UK. This search engine is intended to provide a safe option to potential Muslim internet users who might previously have avoided the internet for some of its less wholesome content. As the Internet use is increasing in Mideast and the North African countries, Imhalal.com is a solution for the Muslims users have stayed away due to religious concerns. The search engine will not return results considered haram, forbidden, and only show results that are halal, approved, under Muslim religious law.

Does this indirectly mean that they want to live in their own private world with their own private age old ideologies?

Atleast we would be able to look into relevant matter now rather than all sort of crap found on the web, specially against Islam.

I typed ”Angelina Jolie” in the search box and the first result took me to Actress Archives. Other than Jolie’s pics (kissing and fondling Bradd ;-)), the actressarchives page also gave me links to other celebrity babes - kim Kardashian, Olivia Munn, Megan Fox, Paris Hilton et al. You can imagine the rest.

I typed ”masturbation” and it returned a message that read,

Oops! Your search inquiry has a Haram level of 2 out of 3. This means that the results fetched by ImHalal.com could be haram!

If you still think the results will be clean click me!

I took a diversion and typed ”jacking off” and I found an interesting link pointing to Yahoo Answers with the heading:

how many times does the average teen male jack off a day?

So much so for Reza Sardeha and his halal search engine. That nut seems to be living in a cave, because Google already has a search filter system. The morons who are offended by explicit contents should turn it off while searching the shit.

Reza claims -

Our main goal is to become the number one website in every Muslim home. If you type in a search term that is level one haram or level two haram, the user still has the opportunity to continue if he is really sure that the search term will fetch a halal result. But if the result is three out of three then no results will be fetched by Imhalal.com.

He will become the number one website, no doubt, but ONLY in those (Muslim) homes where the inhabitants are either ”dumb-headed like him” or want to have a tag of ”halal” on their fun and enjoyment.

Most of the steamy MMS found in some of the popular amateur porn blogs originate from the so-called Muslim countries like UAE, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan and what not.

I think the Islamic youth will overwhelmingly reject this web search service.

This is hilarious actually.

It has to come from the muslim world as sex is a taboo there and people can't openly discuss or talk about it. Hence, they find other ways to get it out of them.

Sorry, folks, but this is nothing new. Orthodox Jews have been using a ”Kosher” search engine for several years now, for similar reasons. There have been filtering systems to prevent children from accessing pornography and other sites for as long as the web has been around.

Use of this search engine is voluntary, so any ”Islamization” is fictitious–just as an allegation of ”Judaization” would be for the ”Kosher” search engines.

If people want to limit their activities on the web, that’s their privilege–I just don’t understand why an adult can’t think for him/herself and ignore any web sites or pages that come up when they feel the pages are not what they’re looking for.

Exactly! Open the sites that you want to and ignore the unwanted matter on the web. What's the big deal!!

Chris:

Apparently, just like the Orthodox Jews, Muslims can’t control their thoughts in a ”pure manner”, so it has to be done for them. Those of us who believe that free thought is natural can’t really understand the needs of people who must have others set their limits for them.

Bottom line: all organized religion is mind control at some level.

What controlled religion?

People have to be controlled to maintain a decorum in the society. There are so called free countries otherwise where children start behaving like adults.

UK for example have highest rate of teen pregnancies.

If this is the result then its better to keep people restricted.

Faroogh:

Oddly enough, in Israel, the heaviest porn traffic goes to Internet Cafes when there are many Ultra-Orthdox present. The same was true for porno movie houses in non-religious areas of Tel-Aviv before the Internet.

Control is repression and people have to find outlets for that repression or they explode.

Have you ever thought that Muslim violence is simply an expression of rebellion against repression, channeled by religious leaders for their own ends?

I don’t say there should be ”no limits”, but the limits should be set by parents and not by some shadowy ”religious leader” with his own agenda–which almost never has anything to to with the well-being of his followers.

Browsing pornographic websites in Internet Cafes in India can land you in jail along with the owner of the cafe.

In India, due to terrorism, Internet Cafe owners wouldn’t allow you to use the systems unless you provided them with photocopies of your identity papers and phone number. This is a government order.

That sounds like something that would happen in a police state, not a democracy.

There are no such limits in Israel (where I don’t visit Internet Cafes because I have my own connection at home, or in any western European country I’ve visited (where I do use Internet Cafes to keep in touch). You just ask for a workstation and pay according to the time you used the computer.

India is not a police state. If home users use the net to send terror mails, they would be easily caught.

Therefore, terror outfits use public internet joints to send messages. Also, they have gone hi-tech these days and send messages hacking into open Wi-Fi networks.

Keeping records of users of Internet cafes has turned out to be a success here apparently.

As far as viewing porn is concerned in open screens in public cyber cafes, well, you can’t make other users uncomfortable. It is like a smoking ban in public places. And it is illegal.

Vishnu:

Personally, I don’t feel any need to visit porn sites– third-party sex was never my ”thing”.

Studies show that most of the regular porn viewers are either sexually repressed in their daily lives or people with a ”voyeur” character– they would rather watch than do. Either way, I think they should get a life!

I would imagine that most countries’ governments monitor e-mails for keywords related to terrorism, but it seems to me that a low-tech approach (hand delivered messages or face-to-face oral communications) would be far more secure for terrorists than an Internet that can be monitored.

No. It’s just an online tool catering to a specific group. Relating it with any religion would be a mistake.
