Turkey :
Turkey’s highest Constitutional Court yesterday reinstated the ban on headscarves. The ruling AK party proposed to lift the ban in February, however, the move was considered as a step forward to turn Turkey into an Islamic State, violating the country’s secular principles. It might also lead to a ban on the ruling AK Party for anti-secular activities.

I don’t think so. Those who oppose lifting the headscarf ban should know what secularism actually means. And if we look closely at the situation in Turkey, banning headscarf is against secularism and lifting ban in favor. However, only long as people are given free choice and it’s not forced.

I see this other way. Wearing of head scarves is not a big deal! What is so wrong with that? You cannot force people if they choose to dress that way. Don't you believe in democracy? If wearing of headscarves is something big... I think something is wrong with the way you people think. These people are very nice and gentle, go and mix with them, then you will understand. Your history lessons may not give you the right picture.

Hypocrisy and double standard are two big issues in Islam. Why the men want women to wear the headscarf. Why they want to put any such condition on women only. Did someone ask them what they want? Oh, sorry!!! I forget for sometime that women have no say in Islam. Women’s liberalization is still a far dream in Islam.

Why so much hullabaloo about headscarf? All the nuns wear them? And its nice to see them respected so if Islam say that every women should be respected like nuns, what’s really the harm in that? But it should be willed and not forced. As 21 century, there should be freedom to the people!

Ridiculous isn't it?? well it is strange to comprehend how a piece of cloth around a persons head can harm another person let alone country's desire to be secular? turkey is not so weak, I suppose, to lose the secular legacy of Ataturk. but the scarf is a political symbol exploited by the AKP to further their own ends of overturning the current secular political order. The Court's decision is to be applauded.

AKP party seems hell bend on the issue and the secularists do not want this to happen. And any forceful move can drag the secularists and Islamists in to a scuffle. While getting Gul elected for the presidency, the AKP party will not let the things go easily. No matter it is an election agenda or whatever, but the army, that has remained mum so far, intervention in the issue will be catastrophic.

This is good decision by Judiciary. because judiciary, military and university leaders were opposing the move since the very beginning. so this was imminent. They termed the removal of the ban as an attempt to overthrow the secularist constitution. so far Ok but even now if the AKp party will remain adamant on the issue, and in the dire situation if army intervenes that will be a new fallout in the trukey. if that will happen, then one can imagine easily.

“Forcing all women not to wear a veil belongs in the same side as forcing women to do so.” the situation is pretty grave and the fools are fighting for nothing. yeah, that about says it all… so, let’s make a deal: when Saudi-Arabia - the core of Islam - allows a woman not to wear it, let all muslimas claim their right to wear it anywhere else. Sorry, comparing apples and oranges, just doesn’t do.

Turkey has it’s very own historical reason to be hysterically secular: the Ottoman Empire was a religiously founded ….. well, empire. It collapsed because it was unable to adapt to modern days. Kemal Ataturk et al. decided not to make that mistake again, and now history has moved past that point again.

Let me also state that even though the headscarf is an immense object of dispute in Islamic societies, the verses talking about it being linguistically hard to interpret, there is undoubtedly no ruling saying that a woman should cover her face. In fact, one of the Hadiths that are part of this whole debate say that Prophet Mohamed told his daughter that when she matures, she should only show “this and this”, pointing to her face and hands.
