Recession has an overall effect and everybody is affected badly in some ways or the other. However, there is one demographic that seems to have been hit less hard by job losses overall: women. Even when it’s true that women unemployment has gone up by 1.6%, but it’s far too less to touch male unemployment rate that shot up by 3%, heralding the onset of a so-called “mancession”. The figures show the biggest gap in jobless rates between men and women for more than five decades. More job losses for men has led to redefining or say reversing the gender roles and challenging men’s status as family breadwinners. Do you think recession is the cause for men to lose more jobs than their Female counterparts?

The rate of unemployment and job loss itself reveals that men are more prone to the effects of recession.

There were more men working than women, so of course more men will lose jobs than women. Women also tend to be paid less than men for doing the same job, so it only makes sense to keep the employee that you pay the least.

There can be other factors also. Women are more hard working. Women are more efficient than men.

Why can't people leave this men-women mentality and start thinking as partners. What difference does it make, if man looses a job and his wife supports financially? Atleast he should be happy that they have a backup and look for other options rather than getting his ego in between.
And the woman should also provide the financial and the moral support so that her man doesn't looses his morale.

I don't think its men-women issue. Somebody who's services can be compromised with goes first, be it men or woman and yes pay is another point. high paychecks, leaves first.
